I’ve got a bonus column over at Work It, Mom! today. This one is about taking a trip by yourself, for yourself. Here’s a sample:
Whether you’re going on a big trip or a little jaunt, the important thing to remember is that you have the right to step out into the world and explore. I’ve traveled on my own for years and I still get the jitters sometimes, but I get over it. It’s worth it. I repeat to myself, “Be not afraid. Be not afraid.” Then I go.

This should go farther. Best travel article I’ve ever read. Not having to wait out a boring place because someone else wants to stay! I remember an almost yelling argument in Washington D,C, in the seventies with he-who-shall-not-be-named. I don’t remember what it was about. I just remember saying “Meet you at the Archives.” and walking away ALONE, not easy because I’m directionally challenged and he knows it. I saw what I wanted to see and found the Archives. So there. too.
Detail, examples, antipation of possible problems, simple planning without stress – like taking a tour before striking out on your own – spending money on what’s important to you and doing the frugal dance on stuff that’s not. Really good advice, Ashley, whether you travel alone or with someone.
Thanks! Yeah, I remember a miserable trip to England with Fartbuster…I wasted so much money when I could have had a great time on my own!
